Jerez de la Frontera, Spain – September 22, 2002 – During the final celebration of the World Equestrian Games 2002 in Jerez de la Frontera (Spain) the official flag of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) was solemnly handed over to the organizer of the WEG 2006 Aachen by the president of the FEI, HRH Princess Doña Pilar de Borbón. Klaus Pavel, president of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein  (ALRV) and Jürgen Thumann, president of the German Equestrian Federation (FN) received it thankfully under big applause.

After the festive ceremony Klaus Pavel was obviously impressed: "It was a moving feeling to receive the official flag of the FEI in a totally sold out arena. Aachen is proud to be allowed to align the World Equestrian Games in 2006. We will try to make the games 2006 to an outstanding event in the purposes of  horse-riding."
